For those of you who depart from Fez and fly to Marrakech, this desert adventure is great (or vice versa). Although the journey can be completed in two nights and three days, we advise taking at least three nights and 4 days.
Marrakech to Fes 4 days tour itinerary
Day 1: Marrakech – Tizi-n-Tichka Pass – Kasbah ait Ben Haddou – Ouarzazate – Skoura – Dades
During our 4 days desert tour from Marrakech to Fes as we wind across the Tizi-n-Tichka pass to the Unesco World Heritage Site, your private tour begins with a panorama of the Atlas Mountains. The historical landmark of Ait Ben Haddou, made popular by films like Gladiator and the well-known HBO series Game of Thrones. The next stop is Ouarzazate, where we’ll see the Atlas Film Studios and a Kasbah. From Marrakech, we’ll continue our journey to the valley of the roses, which is renowned for hosting the annual Festival of Roses. We’ll stay the night in Dades Gorge at a nearby hotel, where you can choose to receive a free dinner.
Day 2: Dades Gorge – Todra Gorge – Rissani – Merzouga – Erg Chebbi
Here, we’ll carry on with our journey by 4×4 and stop at Todra Gorge, a vibrantly tight canyon well-known to outdoor enthusiasts. To go to Erfoud, an oasis hamlet regarded as the entrance to the Sahara desert and renowned for its distinctive fossils, we’ll proceed through the Ziz Valley. There is a local shop where you may buy such stuff as souvenirs, as well as a factory nearby that manufactures fossil-based crafts and home décor.
After that, we’ll go to Rissani to tour the local souk before continuing on to Merzouga, where we’ll spend the night in a nearby riad.
Day 3: Exploring Merzouga
We will spend today touring the Merzouga. With the choice of going camel trekking or touring in the comfort of a 4×4, you’ll have the opportunity to “do your own thing.” We’ll also go to the Khamlia village, which is well-known for its folk music. We simply can’t pass up the chance to enjoy the Sahara desert’s baffling sunset behind the dunes. Local music and traditional Berber cuisine will finish off our evening as we gather around a campfire.
Day 4: Merzouga – Rissani – Midelt – Azrou – Fes
To catch the sunrise, we’ll get an early start, travel to our accommodation on a camelback, and then return. We’ll leave the hotel after breakfast and drive past Rissani and Erfoud before stopping for lunch in Midelt in the Atlas Mountains. After that, our private tour will finish when we arrive at Fes.
